【techapple】 Smart Book Return: Small Technological Innovation, Big Operational Improvement

During our visit to the Learning and Teaching Expo 2024, we met Nelson Tse, Founder & CEO of Milliontech. Their smart library solutions have always been popular, and they recently enhanced their offerings with book return devices. We found their discussion about technology and creativity quite interesting and would like to share it with our readers.

“In the past, you wouldn’t know exactly when books were returned. Now with the interconnected system, we know immediately when a book is returned. Students can’t claim ‘I returned it late’ because the system keeps precise records.”

User-Friendly Design for Teachers and Students

They designed a simple device for teachers to retrieve books efficiently. Using magnets as a solution, it doesn’t require complex operations. While seemingly simple, this innovation has saved significant time for teaching staff. Their philosophy is to create systems that can be easily operated by people without specialized technical skills while ensuring error-free operation. They constantly strive for near perfection.

Expanding Applications

The technology extends beyond libraries to warehouse and logistics management. For instance, when clients need to manage large quantities of iPads, they can implement a similar tagging system. With minor programming adjustments, it solves their management challenges.

Rather than developing extraordinarily complex innovations, their development philosophy focuses on recombining existing technologies to create new value. While the technologies themselves might be simple, the key lies in how they’re integrated to provide practical benefits for users.

This is an example of how small technological innovations can lead to significant operational improvements, demonstrating that effective solutions don’t always need to be complex – they just need to be well-thought-out and practical.
