Taking a systematic approach into systematic for managing the assets, automation of stock-take process would be helpful. Previously, people are adopted serial numbered Asset Tagstags, which are labels often with bar codes for easy and accurate reading. Periodically, they can take the inventory with a handheld barcode terminal and then produce a report

However, the time consumption can be a problem for using barcode, however, it has a problem of time consuming as it is line of sight technology. Operators will be required to find out the position of the label and scan on it. A cosmetic and kitchenware wholesaler in Hong Kong was looking for a mobile sales & inventory management system to its consignment sales.

Every day, the salespersons have to record each sale transaction manually on a physical booklet, some of them even work overtime for organizing sales records/ counting inventory. Regarding of any poor handwritten words or unclear records, they also need to report verbally to clerk in the head office. The data was not easy to keep track and monitor as the clients own 100+ consignment stores in various locations, covering over Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories. It makes data consolidation became a time-consuming job which requests a lots of manual work and audit process.

Workflow

The solution composes of hardware and software parts.

For the hardware selection, handheld terminals with Window OS and mobile printers have been chosen. Salespersons can use handheld device to record the sales transaction and mobile printer to print receipt instantly to customers while stock-take and replenishment request can be done as well. Unlike consumable products (mobile phones), these professional devices are more durable and of lower risk of being stolen. The system itself can perform stocktake, no need to purchase another set of stocktake scanners.

For the tailor-made system, it enables WiFi/ 3G communication for data uploading to client’s back-end server. The sales system is also equipped with VIP registration and loyalty point redemption, VIP points can be checked instantly without other equipment. Moreover, long distance technical support is enabled via MDM which can be used for batch and remote desktop support, thus technician staff can diagnosis problem without going to each location.

Result

The total time spend of the whole progress has dropped into a half than before due to the significant reduction of manual data input and consolidation. A few clicks to upload sales & replenishment records make the process easier and faster with less human error. Park rangers need to perform patrol in various designated locations of daily routes in the country park for law enforcement, park management and resource protection.

 The need of access control in its various office sections was revealed. It is hard to identify the validity of permits for both company staff and vendors.

Workflow

Security guards can use handheld terminal with RFID Patrol System to verify the validity of permits while users entering different locations. Each user has individual NFC card (i.e. staff card), the handheld terminal which built-in NFC reader can read the tag and verify the access right. The access records will upload to security system from battery mode.

Result

A mobile solution provides a greater flexibility in access control and successfully implements to 10 sections. Permit verification can be done easily even the security guard changes the patrol routes in different locations.

A corporate canteen is open to both staff and visitors. It reflects that the canteen is always crowded during peak hours, so their staff needed to queue up for long time for food ordering.

Workflow

Self Ordering Kiosk with barcode scanner is deployed in the canteen. Staff can scan their staff card to access food ordering rights, then choose the meal and settle the payment via Octopus card. The food order will be sent to kitchen after that. The kiosk can facilitate queue busting and boost service efficiency.

Barcode Solution - Inventory Management

Our client is a well-known fast food enterprise which owes 200+ restaurants in Hong Kong. For its complex management, it revealed the difficulty of performing food stock-take at three designated locations of restaurant bi-weekly.

Approximately 2,000 man-hours per time in total were used for stock-taking, data input and checking on manual stock-take process.

Workflow

Million Tech optimizes and systemizes the stock-take process by adopting barcode handheld terminals with tailor-made stock-take mobile application. The staff is proposed to use handheld terminal to scan food item code first (which is shortlisted by shop location) and then enter the quantity, thus the data will be uploaded and integrate to clients’ backend system through cradle communication.

Million Tech rolled out a Food Label Record System for new branch of Hong Kong catering enterprise. Regarding principle of food stock rotation, information about the expiry date and time of pre-prepared food should be clearly stated. Missing information usually results in difficulties to identify which food item will be coming expired soon and might involve potential risk of wastage/stale food.

Workflow

Label is attached upon sauce container denoting information in order to have clear identification of food freshness, such as production date, expiry date and shelf life, of prepared food at kitchen.

Advance label printing enables to contain precise characters and not easy to be sketched. (FDA Standards, Waterproof & able to store at low temperature) Moreover, it is accurate that the shelf life is automatically calculated to predict the expiry date avoiding expiration of stock.

Barcode Solution - Inventory Management

A telecommunication vendor in China has a number of customer sites. Engineers needed to record each device installed at customer sites. An inefficient inventory management might appear while reporting time-consumed, handwritten data and record.

Workflow

Million Tech supplied label attached on each device as a asset control which contained model name and serial number. Engineers may first use handheld terminal to scan the barcode on devices to upload job details and information on its ERP system. They therefore could print the related barcode label by mobile printer to attach on job sheet.

At customer site, handheld terminals can record which devices installed. In warehouse, it can manage RMA, equipment in/ out, stock-take & re-labeling.

Semi-conductor Company in HK

Label Printing

A semi-conductor who sells components to electric product manufacturers, faces high volume of label wastage.

Problem: Up to half of the label wastes

Two different sizes of label (i.e. 4” x 4” label and 4”x 2” label) are controlled by same program. In view of same program is deployed, it is required to switch to the certain size of label for printing in normal condition.

In this case, the demand on different labels is inestimable. Staff intends to use the 4” x 4” label (with perforation) for all printing (including 4” x 2” label printing) in order to simplify the working process. Consequently, the rest of 4” x 2” label is wasted once 4” x 2” label printed on 4” x 4” label due to the printer identified label gap instead of label size.

Think out of box – Using backmark control to eliminate the cost

Million Tech advises the client to use Continuous Format with Backmark for label backmark control. For instance, two backmark is used for 4” x 4” label printing and one backmark for 4” x 2”. Moreover, all printers in use have been changed to proxy printer (Sato) for better label management and avoiding wastage of the skipped 4” x 2” label.

The solution helps to avoid wastage effectively by use up the labels. 1/3 wastage is saved in half a year when backmark control is undertaken.
